About Alexander

Alex Caten did not always know he would be a doctor. He played college soccer in Washington, spent a few years snowboarding in Colorado, worked in construction and as a cook in Arizona before finding his way to health care. An EMT course he took while living in Arizona was the spark that ignited his passion for medicine.

When he made the choice to pursue a medical career, Dr. Caten returned home to earn his undergraduate degree in cell biology and neuroscience at Montana State, then moved south to attend Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. As he explored medical specialties, Dr. Caten was drawn to ear, nose and throat which offers him the perfect balance of surgery and clinical medicine and enables him to have a direct impact on a patient’s everyday life. Helping people regain their senses — speech, hearing and smelling — and alleviating their suffering is powerful and rewarding work.

Dr. Caten completed his residency in otolaryngology at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. His medical education was marked by admission to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society in 2012 and by earning the top research award at the Medical College of Georgia for his work on the use 3D printing for mandibular reconstruction in 2016.

Born in Cody, Wyoming and raised in Billings, Montana, Dr. Caten has mountain living in his blood. While medical school and residency took him to the south, he was eager to return to pine trees and snow-capped peaks to build his practice and raise his family. Carson City and Sierra Nevada Ear, Nose & Throat were the perfect match. Dr. Caten, his wife Scottie and their two young children now call Carson City home. When not caring for patients, he can be found fly fishing on the Carson River, mountain biking the Sierras and playing endlessly with his kids.
