When It’s Urgent, CVMC Cares for You!

Whatever outdoor adventures your family enjoys, CVMC Urgent Care is here for you.

Fall and winter activities are in full swing around Lake Tahoe. It’s a terrific time to enjoy the world-class rock climbing, biking and hiking our area has to offer. And as the temperatures continue to drop? Skiing and snowboarding are a great way to see the breathtaking views from Diamond Peak. While all of us hope that outdoor adventures go according to plan, it always pays to be prepared. CVMC Urgent Care is the solution.

CVMC Urgent Care Center VS the Emergency Room

Urgent care is the best option for critical but non-emergent medical concerns. Life-threatening injuries should always be treated at the emergency room.

Both CVMC Urgent Care and the emergency room can treat unexpected injuries and mild to severe illness. However, choosing to seek medical care at the urgent care clinic (when possible) allows ER staff to focus on true emergencies. Typically, a visit to urgent care is also faster and more affordable than an ER visit.

Like the ER, walk-ins are welcome at CVMC Urgent Care. X-rays and lab tests are performed on-site. CVMC Urgent Care typically treats the following conditions:

  • Cuts and lacerations
  • Broken bones
  • Burns
  • Sprains
  • Fevers
  • Allergic reactions
  • Animal bites
  • Rashes
  • Sore throats
  • Sinus infections
  • Influenza
  • Other minor injuries or ailments

Accessible, Affordable, High-quality Healthcare with NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY.

Urgent care visits are an excellent alternative when your primary care provider is unavailable for a same-day appointment. All you need to do is walk into our urgent care location in the CVMC Ironwood building at the corner of Highway 395 and Ironwood Dr. and check in at the front desk. Our providers see each patient as soon as possible, in the order or arrival.

A Brief History of Urgent Care

Illness and injury never seem to happen when it’s convenient. People are often injured or experience a worsening of their symptoms when traditional doctor’s offices are closed.

Before urgent care clinics existed, hospital emergency rooms were the only care option available for patients who needed care in the evening or on weekends. (Fun fact: ERs as we know them weren’t invented either until the 1960s!)

In the 1970s, urgent cares were created to help meet high demand for after-hours care. In the early days, these clinics were staffed by emergency services personnel. Over time, urgent care clinics have become a critical part of the healthcare system, improving the convenience and access of healthcare for people all over the country. As of 2019, there were around 9616 urgent care centers in the United States.
